High Strength Reading Glasses - What Power Do You Need?

Do I need reading glasses?

Do you have difficulty reading fine print or hold reading material at arm's length?

Do you have difficulty reading in low light conditions?

Do you sometimes get headaches after reading for long periods?

Do you have blurred vision when transitioning between viewing distances?

If you experience one or more of these and are over age 40, you may have presbyopia. Different from farsightedness, Presbyopia is a natural aging process of the eye resulting in the loss of flexibility in the eye's lens. If you have good distance vision, but can't seem to focus on objects up close, reading glasses are for you.

All of our reading glasses and reading sunglasses are designed to improve your close vision.

What is my reading glasses power?

It is important to know the strength of reading glasses needed. Though an ophthalmologist can determine your "diopter strength" using the chart below and simple experimentation with different strengths works well for most people.

To find the correct strength you need, view this image from 14 inches away. The largest line you have difficulty reading is the strength you need (the powers are located next to each line).

When taking the test, you can wear contact lenses, but not your glasses. Reading glasses are designed to be worn over contact lenses or the naked eye, so remember to remove your glasses before taking the test.

LA Readers offers a variety of styles in a range of powers. Find the right eyeglass frame for you and we will grow with you as your strength needs change.
